So here are the pictures from my trip to Kansas City to meet David's family and friends. Everyone was so cool and fun, the BBQ was great, and we did a ton of awesome stuff:
• grilling
• Royals baseball
• fireworks
• "the best" BBQ in KC, Jack Stack (so good)
• tour of the city and WWI Memorial
• Old Settler's Day (kind of a fair/carnival)
• drinking games
• going to a casino at 3am
• Waffle House
• watching the Chiefs lose, but while in a recliner
• family cook-out (I was nervous because, it was like, the ENTIRE family, but they were all really nice)
• taking naps
• going to the shooting range (I shot a .22, 9mm, and a .45, and I was pretty good)
• steak night at Bogey's
Meeting David's Dad, Mom, and friends was the best part because they really made me feel comfortable and welcome.
"Ruffin Hobbs will be remembered by friends as a "gentle giant" with tremendous artistic talent.
Many friends were still in shock Tuesday after hearing the news that Hobbs was found dead outside his secluded home off McBane Mill Lane in southeastern Alamance County Monday morning. He was 56.
Preliminary autopsy results indicate his death was an accident, said Randy Jones, spokesman for the Alamance County Sheriff's Department. Authorities think he fell to his death onto the stonework at his home, a renovated grist mill, which is adjacent to Cane Creek in the Eli Whitney area.
He was alone at the time. His wife, Barbara, was visiting family in England.
Hobbs spent a lot of time at McBane Mill. It was the place where he both lived and created, whether it was the intricate metal work of a blacksmith, the fascinating sculpture of an artist or solemn music of an accomplished bagpiper." continued
This man was probably my father's best friend and I was president of his fan club...he was truly one of the most gentle, kind, and talented people, he brought joy to everyone around him. He was teaching my father to play the bagpipe...I will never forget when I first met him at one of my parents' dinner parties--as a gift he had brought a beautiful fish sculpture attached to a metal rod and stuck it in our yard...we never moved it.
He was a role model for me in a way--truly living the life: accomplished artist and musician, spending his days doing what he loved and bringing happiness to those around him.
Ruffin has left a huge hole in our community. He will be missed by all of us.
I mean, just LOOK at their faces!! What a big day :)
In my life I have known a lot of guys that considered themselves "nice guys" and couldn't understand why they had such a hard time with relationships--I always had a hard time explaining what it was that they were doing that was so off-putting to women.
Then I found this article:

Yeah, it might seem a little harsh but I think it is so dead on.
I posted some pictures from Easter and NYC. Nothing too interesting, just pictures of the MoMA, the Met, the Easter Parade, and eggs David hid around the house for when I got home (plus the big Easter dinner for when I could eat meat again).
I think this is neat : http://nymag.com/fashion/08/spring/44210/
5 New Yorkers that live in one color only.
I don't know if you guys have seen this blog yet, but I find it hilarious:

You can tell from the comments section how dead on this person is, and how much it freaks some people out. Personally, I had never realized how white I am...all this stuff I was doing to make myself more "diverse", was actually making me more like everyone else. Go figure.
ALSO, David has a lot of new entries and a sign-up bracket for March Madness:

My illustration for "Illustration Friday" word "Leap". The world of dressage has been my life since I was born, though I never reached this level.
